Break time snacks

To encourage healthy eating throughout the day we would like to share with you the following guidance for break time snacks at school.

Children are asked to bring in a healthy snack including:

•              Any variety of raw fruit and vegetables

•              Cheese portions

•              Fromage frais/ yoghurt

•              Bread sticks

 Children should not have the following as snacks in school:

•              Fizzy or sugary drinks

•              Chocolate

•              Sweets

•              Nuts of any description (due to allergies in school)

•              Crisps

•              Cereal bars (Many are high in sugar / fat)

•              Pastries

Our Year 5 children are currently fully engaged in an excellent film-making project which will see their films screened at the British Film Institute in London and The Venue in Lincoln.

Lincoln University Radio and Digital Storytelling Project

Once again we are delighted to be involved in this excellent scheme which, amongst a range of exciting activities, will see our children writing, producing and presenting their own radio shows.

Rhubarb Theatre Family Arts Project

We loved the first session of our new arts project with Rhubarb theatre project with 4W and it was wonderful to see so many family members join us. We look forward to a fantastic month of creativity.

It’s another Year 4 Pantomime…Oh Yes It Is!

Our Year 4 classes are working hard in rehearsals for their annual New Year Pantomime. This year sees them performing Aladdin at 2pm on Thursday 30^th January. Details about tickets will be with families of Year 4 children shortly.

Snow and School and Closure and Clothing and Hot School Meals

Last March proved that it is always good to be prepared! In the event of severe weather conditions which you suspect could result in the closure of the school, please tune in to BBC Radio Lincolnshire between 5:30am and 11:00pm Monday to Friday on 94.9FM or to LincsFM 102.2.  Obviously staff will make every effort to arrive at school in poor weather conditions, but in the event of the school being under-staffed or there being a heating failure, we would have to close the school and this will be announced on BBC Radio Lincolnshire and Lincs. FM.  We will also place a notice to this effect on our website and contact families using the ‘txtround’ email and text message service.

Ultimately the decision whether you can transport the children to school, if it is open, remains with yourselves. Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways Department have said in the past: "… if the bad weather does come, we need the public to decide whether they really should travel. The fewer vehicles we have on the road the easier it is for us to deal with the consequences of the weather."

Should the school be open and your children are unable to attend, we ask that you contact us and inform us of this. At the same time, if the children do come to school and there is snow on the playground, we will let them out at break if they are correctly dressed with warm clothes and boots/ strong shoes for outside with another pair of shoes/ trainers to wear in school. Please ensure all footwear is named; a carrier bag for wet footwear is also very helpful.

We have been informed by William Farr School that if they are closed because of snow that their kitchens will not be providing hot school meals. Such a closure will be notified by 7.30am on local radio and the William Farr Website. Should this be the case, all children will need to bring packed lunches in on that day if our school remains open.

Caring for Others

Our Foodbank Fridays have been a great success – keeping alive the belief that we should have the needs of others central to our thoughts and actions throughout the year. Our Christmas Collection, including reverse advent boxes, was so massive that we had to hire a van to transport it all.

The next Foodbank Friday is 7^th February 2020 – please send in your non-perishable items to school for collection and distribution.

Sports success on the horizon (again!)

We have a very busy term ahead with sport including:

Our various sports teams competing in a range of local and county wide events including the county finals for indoor athletics

Our boccia  and hockey teams making their competitive debut in inter school events

Our Cross Country teams beginning their challenge to regain individual and retain team titles in the league of more than twenty schools.

The continuation of a wide range of extra-curricular activities to promote physical well-being.

Update your details / reporting absences

Could you please ensure that our office has your latest contact details? It is fantastic to have the technology to contact parents immediately now in the case of school closure or to discuss the children’s education and well being. However this does depend on us having your latest address, phone and email details.

Absence If your child is absent from school, could you please report this to school by 9:30am? Please note that you can do this by phone, email or through our website.
